Courts in session

Two upgraded outdoor netball courts have been officially opened at the Eric Boardman Stadium by Hume City mayor Jarrod Bell and MP for Sunbury Josh Bull.

The Sunbury Kangaroos and Sunbury Lions Football Netball Clubs campaigned for the upgraded facilities to meet demand from those wanting to play the sport at the Mitchells Ln venue.

“We are proud to support this $1.5 million project investment, including $1.2 million funding from council, and a $225,000 contribution from the Victorian Government,” said Cllr Bell on Tuesday 9 April.

Work on the courts was completed on Tuesday 8 April 2025.

The upgraded courts feature:

  • Construction of a new acrylic coated outdoor netball court (court 1)
  • Replacement of the existing asphalt outdoor netball court (court 2)
  • Introduction of 200 lux LED lighting on both courts
  • Players’ shelter and spectator seating to support both courts
  • Fencing around both courts

The federal government announced has promised the Eric Boardman Stadium will benefit from “critical upgrades” costing $2.5m if it is returned to power on Saturday 3 May.
