With dress rehearsals complete, the cast of the Boilerhouse Theatre Company are ready to take to the stage to perform Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe amid the apparently haunted buildings on Jacksons Hill.
Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe is a theatrical adaptation written by Eric Coble that dramatises four of Edgar Allan Poe’s most iconic and haunting tales.
The play plunges the audience into the tormented mind of Poe himself as he struggles with madness, memory, and the terrifying stories that seem to come alive around him. Blending narrative and theatrical storytelling, the play interweaves The Raven, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum, and The Tell-Tale Heart.
Each story unfolds as a vivid nightmare, brought to life through Poe’s introspection and psychological unraveling. The characters from his stories begin to haunt him, blurring the line between fiction and reality.
As Poe revisits each tale, the play explores themes of guilt, obsession, fear, and the fragility of the human mind. The setting is dark and atmospheric, reflecting the eerie and gothic tone of Poe’s work.
It’s a compelling theatrical experience that honours Poe’s literary legacy while immersing the audience in a world of suspense, dread, and poetic horror. And you can watch it at The Boilerhouse Community Arts Centre, Boilerhouse Rd, Jacksons Hill, over two weekends starting Friday 13 June with the final performance on Saturday 21 June.
