The new children’s splash park at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre got a test run this week, but don’t get too excited – it may not be open until summer.
The Ligar St centre’s ageing outdoor toddler pool space has been replaced thanks to a $3.8m investment by centre owners Hume City Council, and with financial assistance from the state government.
The zero-depth attraction includes:
- A soft fall surface
- Slides
- Tipping bucket
- Spray loops
- Aqua dome
- Jets
- Fountains
- Funnels
- Spray features
- Covered by shade sails
It’s just what many families asked for during a recent council consultation on what they’d like to see covered in the council’s next annual budget.
The project also includes easier access to the outdoor pool space with ramps and the removal of steps between pools.
Council has previously stated it will complete additional upgrade works in the outdoor pool area, including painting the 50m pool shell ahead of the 2025/26 summer season.
Construction on the splash area started in August 2024 and is scheduled to be completed April 2025.
