Sunbury Life news 14 March 2025

More than 100 residents and community groups have told council what they’d like included in its next annual budget, which is due to be released in June this year. There were six requests for a splash park in Sunbury to give children a shallow water play area in the town.

Typically these feature water jets, fountains, dumping buckets, they look good fun, and non-slip surfaces to give kids a place to cool down on hot days. Great idea. Why don’t we have one?

That’d be good for the council to do. Also in the mix of wants as part of the council’s, you know, community consultation process was improved sporting facilities across a range of sports from softball and basketball and tennis. There were two requests for a Sunbury Museum.”

“We lost the Sunbury Museum years ago when the GLC was built, the Global Learning Centre, and dog owners want improvements to two dog parks in town. Apparently some of the fences are a bit rotten, and I guess the dogs are getting out and they want the fences fixed. Thank you very much.

Yes, good idea. And also, someone wants the Council to employ a person to remove graffiti full time in Sunbury. Goodness knows, Sunbury Life has contacted the Council numerous times over this issue, and they just basically don’t care.

Anyway, the list of wants put in by 41 people in Sunbury to Hume City Council is extensive, and you can see the full story on sunburylife.au and find out what’s going on. And it’s never too late to actually put in a request for something you need. You haven’t got to wait for the annual public consultation.”

“ou can tell Council anytime of the year what you would like to see done in Sunbury. Greater Western Water has experienced a bit of a hiccup with its computer system and inadvertently sent water bills to the wrong address, about just under 200 of them have gone to the wrong address in the Greater Western Water area. Not all of them, of course, in Sunbury.

It’s advising bill payers to log in to their My Great Western Water customer account to check their details are correct. Visit www.com.au and go from there. Sunbury Rotary Club raised $4,000 to help fund research into mental health as part of the organization’s Lift the Lid campaign.

More than 50 people paid to take part in a 2K walk around Clark Oval on Saturday, March 1st. The Big Apple is coming to the Boyle House Theatre, Jackson’s Hill, for three nights starting March 21. It’s hosting performances of the play Ordinary Day that tells the story of a student who loses an important notebook and the man who returns it to her.”

“The production is a collaboration between the Boyle House Theatre Company and the Essendon Theatre Company, three nights only, in Jackson’s Hill, Boyle House, and then other shows elsewhere. Don’t forget, the big event this weekend, of course, is the SunFest, Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16 is going to be a great weekend. The SunFest show features live music.

There’s a huge funfair, trade stalls, street entertainers, you name it. It all starts Saturday, March 15, at 10 a.m. In and around the Village Green area, there’s a firework display planned for Saturday evening. And singing under the stars will run until 11 p.m. when the evening closes.

All the fun kicks off again on Sunday morning. There’ll be the famous color run, and the SunFest event will close at 3 p.m. Sunday. And keep an eye out for Sunbury in an upcoming TV commercial for Toyota.”

“Cast and crew were in town last week shooting a commercial at the Target car park, featuring a red Hilux and a blue RAV4. Be interesting to see where that goes to air, whether we can spot Sunbury in the TV commercial. And finally, do visit sunburylife.au and check out the What’s On section.

We try to list all the local events that are sent in to us. If you have an upcoming event, then do let us know. And if you do have any local news to share, we will be happy to feature it on the Sunbury Life website, because if it matters to Sunbury, it definitely matters to us.”
