
Sunbury’s visitor information desk at the town’s Global Learning Centre is to close as Hume City Council moves to an online offering for those looking for tourist information. It hopes visitors will use the council’s Instagram account.
The Sunbury community will benefit from a $2.5m boost for the Eric Boardman Stadium if the Albanese Labor Government is re-elected on Saturday 3 May. The money will help pay for “critical upgrades” to the stadium’s infrastructure.
Stage two of the council’s historic street signs project has been launched. It will see 28 informative signs appear in places such as Bulla. The project follows the success of a similar scheme in Sunbury.
Detectives have dismantled an organised car theft syndicate. Police arrested the alleged ringleader in Sunbury and recovered 36 alleged stolen cars.
Investigators believe the group is also linked to a property in Diggers Rest, where 30 alleged stolen vehicles were recovered. A man is to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court Friday May 2.
The new children’s splash park at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre got a test run this week, but don’t get too excited – it may not be open until next summer.
The Ligar Street centre’s ageing outdoor toddler pool space was replaced thanks to a $3.8m investment by Hume City Council, and with state government cash.
Hume City Council is making its Waste Response Program permanent to tackle illegal dumping, and is expanding it to service the whole of Hume. The scheme was launched as a trial in October 2023 and will now include Sunbury.
Your representatives on Hume City Council will meet again on Monday 14 April at the council’s Broadmeadow’s chamber from 7pm. The meeting can be watched on YouTube via the council’s website.

Finally, just a note that due to trial operations along the Sunbury to Cranbourne and Pakenham rail line next week, normal services will be disrupted on April 14, 15 and 17.
