Road safety campaign’s cash for clubs

Sports clubs in Sunbury are being invited to take part in a statewide campaign promoting road safety, with the chance to receive up to $10,000 in funding for their efforts.

The Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Club Rewards Program is now open for applications, offering a total of $700,000 to grassroots clubs across Victoria, including those in Sunbury. The initiative encourages clubs to champion road safety messages among players, supporters, and the broader community.

Now in its sixth year, the program supports clubs affiliated with AFL Victoria to start conversations about responsible driving – particularly on regional roads, where many teams travel for weekend matches.

TAC is calling on clubs to “Be the difference” by raising awareness of the dangers of speeding and unsafe driving, both on and off the field.

Clubs that take part can earn funding for things like transport services, new uniforms, equipment, or facility improvements. The goal is to reward clubs that lead by example and create a culture of care and accountability on the roads.

Many clubs that joined the program last year had experienced road trauma within their communities and used the opportunity to honour those affected while spreading lifesaving messages.

Sunbury clubs looking to get involved are encouraged to develop creative campaigns, whether that’s through social media, team talks, or road safety events.

With 133 lives lost on Victorian roads so far this year – more than half on regional roads – TAC hopes community-led programs like this can make a real impact.
