Stage two of the council’s historic street signs project has been launched. The move will see some older signs replaced with more informative ones sharing some of the city’s history.
Mayor Jarrod Bell says the signs highlight the people, places, and stories that have shaped our suburbs, “…ensuring our history remains a visible part of the community”.
“A huge thank you to our dedicated council officers, local historians, and community members who helped bring this project to life.”
With 28 new street signs to be installed over the next week, the initiative is growing beyond Sunbury and into more parts of Hume.
“Keep an eye out for the signs next time you’re in Bulla, Westmeadows, or Broadmeadows,” says Cllr Bell.
Stage two of the initiative was launched Saturday 5 April at Historic Foresters Hall, Westmeadows.
At the event were Cllrs Karen Sherry, Steve Gagen, and Naim Kurt, along with representatives of local history groups:
- Sunbury Family History and Heritage Society
- Friends of Will Will Rook Pioneer Cemetery
- Craigieburn Historical Interest Group
- Broadmeadows Historical Society
