Sunbury Show returns with fun for the whole family

Sunbury comes alive with colour, creativity and country charm when the annual 103rd Sunbury Show returns to Clarke Oval on Saturday, 11 October.

Show organiser Narelle Reino says this year’s event delivers “a really great family day out” and brings a touch of the country back to the growing Sunbury community.

“There’s so much to see and do – competitions, animals, live entertainment, and fun for kids. It’s just about getting out together and having some fun,” Ms Reino says.

Competitions

From prize-winning parsnips to show-stopping cakes, Sunbury locals will showcase their talents in the pavilion competitions. Thanks to support from Sunbury Connected Communities, entry to all pavilion classes is free.

“It used to cost a dollar for each entry, which adds up if you’re entering lots of items,” Ms Reino says. “Now it’s completely free, so if you grow great pumpkins, arrange flowers, or bake a brilliant sponge cake – why not enter? You’ve got nothing to lose.

“Every class is free this year from the sheep and poultry right up to the pet parade and truck show.”

The popular Scarecrow competition, sponsored by the Sunbury Masonic Lodge, offers a $100 first prize.

Sunbury Radio (99.3FM) will also be broadcasting live from the show.

Attractions and entertainment

The day packs in plenty of affordable fun, with highlights including:

  • Free Trail Bags for children – worth around $40 each, filled by visiting stations around the show
  • Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Animal Farm – kids meet and feed friendly farm animals
  • Camel Rides – a unique experience for all ages
  • Battle of the School Choirs – local schools compete for the title of best choir and $500 prize money
  • Music and dance displays – performances by Kismet Park Primary School, local dance and singing schools and The Divine Divas Show Choir
  • Sheep shearing demonstration – a narrated look at where your clothes come from
  • Pet Parade – free to enter, with judging at 12-noon
  • The brand-new Community Hub showcases local volunteer and school groups, giving residents the chance to connect with the organisations that keep Sunbury thriving.

Volunteers welcome

Behind the fun and festivities, the Sunbury Show depends on community support. The committee is still looking for more members and volunteers to lend a hand on the big day.

“It’s not hard work,” Ms Reino says. “Sometimes it’s as simple as stamping kids’ trail bag cards or helping usher performers on stage. Every bit of help makes a huge difference.”

With so much free entertainment, exciting competitions and a warm community atmosphere, the Sunbury Show promises a day of fun for all ages.
