Sunbury takes a stand against crime

Residents in Sunbury are set to play a bigger role in shaping a safer community as Hume City Council ramps up its efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour across the city.

Following a Neighbourhood Safety Forum in Tullamarine last month, council is holding a Sunbury-focused event as part of its broader crime prevention strategy.

Its Neighbourhood Policing Forum, to be held at the Global Learning Centre, Macedon St on Thursday 3 July, aims to bring together residents and local police leaders to address safety concerns in the area.

The initiative is part of council’s ongoing push to foster strong partnerships between local government, Victoria Police, and residents. The forum will run from 6pm to 9pm, offering attendees the chance to raise issues directly with area sergeants and commanders.

Council’s renewed focus on community safety follows positive community engagement at a recent forum held in Tullamarine’s Willowbrook Reserve.

Organised by local residents Rachel Amore and Leonie Conforto, and attended by Cllr Naim Kurt and the City Safety team, the forum tackled a wide range of concerns — from park upgrades and illegal dumping to CCTV policy and increased police visibility.

Among the key outcomes was council’s commitment to working with communities on new signage to deter crime and exploring closer cooperation with Victoria Police on patrols and visibility.

With Sunbury now in focus, council is urging locals to make their voices heard. Those interested can reach out to Community Safety Officer James Drake via [email protected].
