Theatre enthusiasts will have to wait a little longer to enjoy the magic of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with the Boilerhouse Theatre Company announcing a delay to their much-anticipated production originally scheduled for March 2026.
The postponement comes as construction on Sunbury’s new theatre space at the Jackson Hill Arts and Cultural Precinct faces timeline changes that mean the venue won’t be ready in time.
While the news may disappoint some, the theatre company says it’s a necessary step to ensure the production meets the high standards audiences have come to expect.
“Being part of a theatre production is a huge commitment,” said a spokesperson for the company. “We apologise to everyone who has been planning around the original dates. But we remain committed to delivering an unforgettable show — just a little later than planned.”
Auditions for the production are now expected to take place in early 2026, with updated performance dates to be announced once confirmed.
The Boilerhouse Theatre Company, made up entirely of volunteers, has been a staple in Sunbury’s creative community for years. The group says they’re excited by the prospect of finally performing in a dedicated cultural space – a long-term dream that’s close to becoming reality after nearly a decade in the making.
“We know this delay may be disappointing, but we’re confident the final result – both the venue and the production – will be worth the wait,” the company said. “We’re grateful for the continued support and patience of our wonderful community.”
The cultural and arts precinct at Building 22 Jacksons Hill is due to be completed in October according to a Hume City council statement.
