Upset for Jack Medcraft and a close call for Jarrod Bell in election results

The election results for Hume City have been published by the Victorian Electoral Commission.

In Emu Creek Ward, first-time candidate Kate Hamley (Independent) has been named the winner, pushing long-standing incumbent Jack Medcraft out in what must have been a disappointing and surprising week.

Of the first preference votes Medcraft got 4,953 (39.82%), Trevor Dance 2,917 (23.45%), and Kate Hamley 4,568 (36.73%).

However, following distribution of the preference votes, Hamley was awarded 6,632 votes (53.32%) and Medcraft 5,806 (46.68%).

Jarrod Bell (Labor) has been re-elected to council and will represent Jacksons Hill Ward. Other contenders for this ward were Natalie Harrison and John Karagiannidis.

It was a close call though with the final result (after preferences) showing Harrison got 6,203 votes (49.97% ), and Bell 6,211 votes (50.03%). However, a recount has been called for.
