Hume City Council is on the hunt for a creative dynamo to help switch on Sunbury’s newest arts hub, with a key role now open as Artrise moves toward its long-awaited debut. And for those with a taste for history – or the paranormal – the workplace may have a few lingering spirits according to some locals.
The part-time role runs until June 2027 with a pro rata salary of $99,526 plus super, and will be based entirely on site at Buildings 22 and 24 (5/95-125 Circular Dr).
The buildings have a long association with ghost stories, eerie sightings and decades of whispered tales from their days as part of the Sunbury Lunatic Asylum and later the psychiatric hospital.
Paranormal investigators and community groups have for years reported strange sounds, sudden cold spots and the feeling of being watched.
According to the council job notice, the successful candidate will help shape a “thriving creative community,” developing a quarterly program of workshops and events, supporting artist residencies, marketing the facility and working closely with the Community Advisory Board.
Applicants will need proven experience activating arts spaces, developing community-focused programs and managing arts facilities, along with strong project management and marketing skills.
Ghosts aside, the position marks another milestone for the long-planned Jacksons Hill cultural precinct. Applications can be submitted via Hume City Council’s careers site here.
