Cultural centre gets a new name

Sunbury’s arts and cultural centre at Jacksons Hill has a name – Artrise – Gather, Connect and Create on the Hill.

The name, chosen through community consultation organised by the council, is said to celebrate creativity, community connection, and the site’s history, including its significance to the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.

“Rise” symbolises new beginnings, the growth of arts, and the precinct itself rising from its past uses states the council.

The refurbished buildings will form the heart of the precinct, set to open in later this year.

While a broader naming process for the entire precinct is underway, Artrise marks a key milestone in transforming Jacksons Hill into a vibrant destination for arts, culture, and community.
