Hume City Council is making it easier for residents to dispose of common household waste by increasing the number of Hume Clean Days.
Hume Clean Days will now be held across the whole weekend each quarter, not just Saturdays. The next Hume Clean Days will be held on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September.
Held on the first weekend of March, June, September and December, Hume Clean Days provide an opportunity for residents to take certain items to a Resource Recovery Centre without paying any disposal fees or using their annual waste vouchers.
On Hume Clean Days, residents can drop off old and worn-out mattresses and couches, as well as car and truck tyres, at Council’s Resource Recovery Centres in Campbellfield and Sunbury.
This is in addition to the list of waste items that can be dropped off for free at any time, which includes paper and cardboard, scrap metal, batteries, paint, appliances and white goods.
Residents can also now drop off up to four cubic metres of organic garden waste at Hume Clean Days.
Renters are welcome to take advantage of the free waste disposal, as well as homeowners and ratepayers who live outside of Hume. Proof of Hume residency or a rates notice is required at the gatehouse.
In the 2023/24 financial year, Hume residents used Hume Clean Days to drop off 427 couches 790 mattresses, and 2,187 tyres.
