Aitken Ward councillor Carly Moore has been elected mayor of Hume City by fellow councillors for a fourth time, the first in the city’s history.
And Yuroke Ward councillor Ally Watson was elected deputy mayor at the council’s statutory meeting on Wednesday, 12 November. The previous post holders were councillors Jarrod Bell and Naim Kurt respectfully.
Cllr Moore said she looked forward to continuing a collaborative approach with councillors and the community.
“Earlier this year, council endorsed the Community Vision for Hume – a thriving community with a strong sense of belonging. As mayor, I’m proud to stand alongside our community in championing this vision,” she said.
The appointments mark Hume’s first all-female leadership team. Cllr Watson has lived in Hume for 10 years, while Cllr Moore’s family has been part of the community since the 1960s.
Cllr Moore said her priorities include advocating for better services and infrastructure ahead of the next state election.
“Just like other parts of Melbourne, we deserve the very best of services and infrastructure – great schools, safe roads and healthcare when and where we need it,” she said.
