EPA Victoria has fined the owner of a Sunbury farm $10,175 and issued a removal order after an inspection allegedly found industrial waste had been burnt on the site. The decision comes a week after VCAT issued a stop order following community protests.
The independent environmental regulator claims Paul Attwell and his company Active Farming trucked industrial waste as well as soil to the Riddell Rd farm. EPA officers inspected the land earlier this month.
Although the site is already closed due to VCAT’s 120-day stop order – issued on 16 October – the EPA has given Active Farming Pty Ltd an environmental action notice. This requires the company to:
- Immediately cease accepting industrial waste
- Immediately cease burning industrial waste
- Remove all industrial waste by 30 January 2026
Until the stop order was issued, Canterbury Ave residents saw hundreds of heavy trucks use its road to access the farm.
