Sunbury’s $25m Technical and Further Education (Tafe) campus is a step closer. Five months after it was announced land had been bought for the facility, an architect has been hired.
The purchase of a 2,900sqm greenfield site between Evans St and O’Shamassy St made the news in September following government promises a Tafe would be built in the town years earlier.
Now, Melbourne firm Spowers Architects has been appointed to design the Kangan Institute facility which is due to open its doors in 2028.

Sunbury MP Josh Bull says it will be a huge year for the electorate.
“This will be a transformative project,” he says. “As the design work is completed I will share it with our community and as always thank you for your support of this project and so many more right across our community.
“This government will open new facilities at Goonawarra Primary School, open new facilities at Diggers Rest, remove two level crossings in Diggers Rest and start construction of our brand new senior citizens centre.”
Ahead of the purpose-built Tafe opening, three courses are being offered by the organisation at Sunbury’s Hume Global Learning Centre.
- The certificate IV in training and assessment (course starts Tuesday 13 August, next intake February 2025)
- The adult migrant English program certificate I in EAL (access) and
- The adult migrant English program certificate II in EAL (access)
Former Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews pledged $65-$80 million for Tafe campuses in Sunbury and Melton in November 2022. In May 2023 Mr Bull announced a Tafe in Sunbury would be built.
