A 100th birthday party for local lady Eileen Palser was hosted by The Ladies Probus Club of Sunbury, at the Sunbury Social Club on Wednesday 3 July.

Mrs Palser says she was “absolutely in awe of the wonderful celebration” which was attended by members of her family who flew in for the party from the UK. She also received a birthday card from King Charles.

The Probus Club’s Frances Caruso says the day was truly enjoyed by all, “…but particularly our one-hundredth birthday gal”.

Mrs Palser’s birthday was on Tuesday 2 July. She was born in Belfast, grew up in Birmingham, UK, and retired to Sunbury with her husband when they were in their 70s.

Mrs Palser says she has always enjoyed life, has worked since she was 14, and until recently walked everywhere.

“I enjoy meeting new people, and have made many friends since I settled in Sunbury,” says Mrs Palser. “I still exercise weekly, and recently started chair yoga.”

Her secrets for a long life are good food, fresh air, and a great sense of humour.

“My advice to young people is to enjoy every day, and look after one another,” she says.

Mrs Palser has five children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, many of whom call Sunbury home.
