Anzac Day police stand-off in Sunbury

A 34-year-old Sunbury man was arrested on Thursday 25 April following allegations of shots being fired. The man is currently in hospital under police guard.

“It is understood the man shot at a vehicle with a firearm, and then retreated inside a property about 12pm,” police said.

Officers spent two hours negotiating with the man, who was inside a Leichardt St property, before taking him into police custody at around 2pm. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

As a precautionary measure, police asked the public to avoid the area while negotiations were ongoing. The ‘all clear’ being given later in the afternoon.

The motive behind the alleged shooting, and further details have not been released by police.

Officers continue to investigate the matter to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident, and any potential charges that may be laid.
