The Sunbury Cemetery Trust is inviting expressions of interest from locals keen to serve as volunteer members of the trust, playing a key role in the governance of the town’s historic Sunbury Public Cemetery.
Trust members are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operations, and long-term stewardship of the cemetery.
The trust is encouraging applications from those with backgrounds or interests in legal and regulatory affairs, horticulture, environmental planning, landscape design, or culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Prior experience in board governance is not required, as comprehensive training and support are provided.
Successful applicants will be expected to attend regular meetings, contribute to strategic planning and policy decisions, and uphold principles of integrity, impartiality, and accountability in line with public sector values.
Trust secretary and Hume City councillor Jarrod Bell said: “At present, two of our members are approaching the end of their respective terms. All existing members are eligible to seek reappointment should they wish.
“The trust also has the general discretion to determine its overall membership size, with Class B cemetery trusts in Victoria typically comprising between three and eleven volunteer members.”
To apply, send a cover letter addressed to Richard Vandeloo outlining your interest and relevant experience, along with a current resumé. Applications close on Sunday 14 July 2025, and can be submitted via email at [email protected].
