The next Hume Clean Days will be held Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March 2025.
Hume City Council’s quarterly event means you can take your unwanted mattresses, couches, and up to 15 tyres and garden waste to resource recovery centres in Sunbury and Campbellfield for free.
You can also drop off up to four cubic metres of organic garden material such as leaves, grass clippings and pruning waste.
Many visitors also used the days to drop off white goods and other e-waste at the same time, says the council.
E-waste (anything powered by a cord, battery or plug) is also free to drop off at municipal dumps at any time, along with cardboard, paint, motor oil, and barbecue gas bottles.
Expanding Hume Clean Day from Saturday to the whole weekend starting in September 2024 was a big contributor to its success last year, states the council.
“It led to a doubling of deliveries to the centre against previous years.”
- Mattresses: 720 in 2024 (430 in 2023)
- Tyres: 2,032 in 2024 (1,197 in 2023)
- Couches: 284 in 2024 (276 in 2023)
Council states these items are frequently found in illegally dumped rubbish.
