Greater Western Water’s Thriving Communities Grants and Sponsorship program is supporting 28 community groups to help make community projects, events and activities happen in 2025/26.
After receiving a record number of applications this year compared with any other year, GWW has awarded approximately $180,000 in grants and sponsorships to local groups across its service region, including two in Sunbury.
- Sunbury Community Festival for its Sunfest 2026 event which celebrates diversity through inclusive cultural and Indigenous performances and workshops including a parade, colour run and sensory zone.
- Sunbury Community Garden for improvements to its Children’s Garden, which encourages children to get involved in the garden, grow fresh produce, promote healthy eating, and socialise with other children through its twice monthly Children’s gardening club.
The water company’s GM strategy and partnerships Kessia Thomson says the organisation was overwhelmed by the number and quality of applications this year.
“We’re supporting more projects than ever before, and we can’t wait to see them come to life over the next 12 months.”
“We’re supporting a diverse range of projects that will support positive liveability, education, sustainability and health and wellbeing outcomes for our customers and communities across every corner of our service region.” Ms Thomson said.
Community groups can apply for up to $20,000 for community grants and up to $5,000 for local community sponsorship. Now in its fourth year, the program has funded more than 90 projects since 2022.
