Feedback wanted on sports club lease renewal

Hume City Council has proposed granting a new 30-year lease to the Sunbury United Sporting Club for its site at 109 Mitchells Lane, Sunbury.

The lease would allow the club to continue operating as a non-profit social and sporting venue, including the use of gaming machines. Sunbury United has leased the property since 1982 and currently occupies it under an overholding arrangement.

Under the proposal, rent would be set at [undisclosed] market rates. The council has invited public submissions on the plan in line with Section 115 of the Local Government Act 2020 and its community engagement policy.

Residents have until 5pm on Friday, 21 November 2025, to lodge written submissions addressed to council CEO Sheena Frost. Submissions can be emailed ([email protected]), posted, or delivered in person to council offices in Broadmeadows or Sunbury’s Global Learning Centre.

Anyone wishing to speak in support of their submission will have the opportunity to address councillors or a committee at a public meeting scheduled for Monday, 9 February 2026, at the Broadmeadows council chamber.

Further details are available from Hume council’s acting director of customer strategy, Fadi Srour, on 9205 2200.
