Sunbury Netball Association has been named Victoria’s top Woolworths NetSetGo Centre at the inaugural Netball Victoria Awards held in Melbourne, Sunday 19 October.
The local association took out the award for its outstanding commitment to delivering a fun, inclusive and development-focused program for young players. Judges praised Sunbury’s use of older representative players as mentors, ensuring children feel supported and excited to return each week.
“What sets Sunbury apart is its focus on enjoyment, skill-building, and teamwork, with older representative players actively involved to ensure every child feels supported, valued, and excited to return each week. The program promotes physical activity, community spirit, and personal growth,” said judges.
The NetSetGo program is Netball Victoria’s official entry-level initiative for children aged five to 10, helping them develop skills, confidence and a love for the game.
Sunbury’s strong community focus has led to rising participation, positive parent feedback and growing volunteer involvement.
The awards event, hosted at the RACV City Club, marked the first time Netball Victoria combined its Community Awards, Life Membership presentation, and recognition of the Victorian Netball League, state teams and Melbourne Vixens into one celebration.
Netball Victoria President Carol Cathcart said the organisation’s goal was to inspire a lifelong love of the sport and make netball a game where “everyone can belong”.
With Victoria’s membership numbers already surpassing last year’s 118,000, the sport continues to grow strongly across the state.
