Hume City Council will host its first-ever Fix-It Fair, a free community event celebrating home repair, reuse and recycling skills. The event aims to help residents extend the life of household items, save money, and reduce waste going to landfill.
The Fix-It Fair day will feature free demonstrations and interactive stalls designed to inspire residents to roll up their sleeves and get creative at home. Participants can learn how to:
- Start composting like a pro
- Pickle kitchen scraps
- Repair wooden furniture
- Save seeds for their garden
- Make eco-friendly cleaning products
- Support local wildlife in their backyard
There will be fun recycling games, a pop-up stall where residents can ask questions about waste, recycling and the Container Deposit Scheme, and information on home energy reduction, biodiversity events and community gardens.
Community organisations such as Men’s Sheds will also be represented, and visitors can enjoy the popular Bike n Blend smoothie stall.
The Fix-It Fair offers something for everyone, whether residents are keen DIY enthusiasts or simply interested in learning how to live more sustainably.
