HiQ answers community questions on incinerator plan

Waste company HiQ has released a new document featuring community questions and answers about its proposed waste-to-energy (WtE) facility at its Eco-Hub, Sunbury Rd, Bulla.

The publication follows a September 2025 community webinar attended by 42 people, during which residents were invited to raise questions about the project and its recently granted cap licence from Recycling Victoria.

The licence, awarded in August 2025 under Victoria’s Waste-to-Energy Framework, marks a key milestone for the firm as it advances plans to convert residual waste – such as red-bin rubbish and commercial waste – into electricity rather than sending it to landfill.

HiQ’s proposed Sunbury Eco-Hub would process up to 750,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste each year, generating energy to power homes and businesses.

The Bulla site, says the firm, was chosen for its existing operations in resource recovery, water treatment, and engineered disposal, as well as its proximity to the fast-growing Hume region, which produces significant volumes of waste.

The newly released PDF captures all questions raised during the webinar and provides responses prepared by HiQ and its technology partner, Kanadevia Inova.
