As temperatures drop in Sunbury, Ambulance Victoria (AV) is urging locals to take simple steps to stay healthy and safe this winter.
With colder weather increasing the risk of illness and injury – particularly for older residents and those living alone – AV is encouraging the community check on vulnerable neighbours, and make their homes safer.
AV executive director of regional operations, Danielle North, says winter poses extra challenges for people’s health, especially among seniors.
“Simple things like a fall in the bathroom or a faulty heater can quickly become serious,” says Ms North.
“Now’s the time to make sure your heating is safe, that walkways are well-lit and clear, and any rugs or cords are secured. These small actions can go a long way in preventing accidents.”
For non-urgent medical concerns, residents are reminded to consider alternatives before dialling Triple Zero. Trusted options include:
- Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED): Access to emergency care online, 24/7 – www.vved.org.au
- Urgent Care Clinics: GP-led clinics for immediate but non-emergency treatment
- NURSE-ON-CALL: 24/7 advice from a registered nurse – call 1300 606 024
- Local GPs and pharmacists
“These services are there to help when your health concern isn’t an emergency but still needs attention,” Ms North added.
