A heartfelt fundraiser hosted by Ottimo Bakery on Saturday, 31 May raised more than $1,000 for brain cancer research, as part of the national Baking for Brain Cancer initiative.
The event, led by bakery owner Rebecca Bremner, drew strong support from the Sunbury community and raised a total of $1,172.10 in just one day.
The fundraiser had special meaning for Ms Bremner, whose cousin Bek is battling terminal brain cancer. It also honoured her former mentor, the late John Reid of Red Beard Bakery, who passed away from the disease in 2021.
Visitors to the O’Shanassy St bakery were treated to behind-the-scenes tours, tastings, and baking demonstrations in exchange for donations. Every dollar raised is going directly toward brain cancer research.
The funds will support the ongoing fight against brain cancer, a disease where treatment outcomes have remained largely unchanged for decades.
