Welcome to the Sunbury Life newswrap podcast for week ending Friday 15 December 2023.
Sunbury author and journalist Erina Reddan has released her latest book, Deep in the Forest.
Reddan, a member of one of the oldest families in the district (having grown up on a farm between Diggers Rest and Bulla), thought she’d had a pretty ordinary childhood.
However, when she started writing her latest book – which explores the power of religion and cults – she realised she had grown up in a kind of cult.
Here’ what she had to say about her new book Deep in the forest…
The troubled indoor swimming pool at the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre ill reopen next year says Hume council’s director city services & living, Hector Gaston.
Speaking at a meeting of the full council on Monday 11 December, Gaston said it’s anticipated the Ligar St pool will open in late January 2024.
Sunbury local Dave White thought he’d make the most of Monday’s misty weather and visited the local cemetery to snap photos of the historic graves and monuments.
Check out his haunting photos on our website.
Sunbury Cllr Jack Medcraft has asked the council to start a walk to school scheme.
Council will produce a feasibility study that will be presented to councillors in the new year.
Medcraft initially proposed that police stop good drivers to give them shopping vouchers, but that was knocked back by top brass at Victoria police.
While the state government’s scheme to refund 10c on empty bottles and cans may help children and charities with extra cash, any value for those who actually pay for the weekly shop seems pretty thin.
One SunburyLife reader writes to say the container deposit machine at a Rosenthal carpark was faulty the evening he visited, and is surprised the machine is powered by a generator. See our website the video.
