Police are being called in over an alleged recording of a confidential Hume City Council briefing that was shared on social media.
Cllr Carly Moore proposed the notice of motion (NoM 9.3) for the council’s Monday 9 December 2024 meeting.
The NoM states :
- That during the November local government elections, a recording from a closed Council briefing emerged on social media
- Notes that this recording was taken without the consent or knowledge of the meeting participants, including both Councillors and Council Officers and that during this briefing, confidential items were discussed
- Writes to the Minister for Local Government (Melissa Horne) and relevant integrity agencies advising that this has occurred
- Refers the potential illegal surveillance to Victoria Police requesting an investigation
- Seeks direction from the Minister for Local Government on how Councillors and council officers can be protected from breaches of this nature reoccurring
Her proposal was seconded by Cllr Karen Sherry and supported by all councillors.
