The Sunbury Seniors club is celebrating a season of growth, new friendships and busy activities, with membership numbers continuing to rise.
Club president Louise Zambello said the group had welcomed several new members whose “energy and ideas mix well with some of our longer-standing traditions, making Sunbury Seniors a welcoming place for everyone”.
Recent highlights included the annual birthdays celebration in July, where all members’ birthdays were marked at the Black Horse Hotel in Bulla.
Members have also enjoyed trips to the Shed of Memories in Bungaree, the Woop Woop Sculpture Garden in Harcourt, and The Willows Historical Homestead in Melton, with lunches at local venues adding to the social spirit.
The club also hosted a presentation by Kaye Potter from Hearing Australia on the importance of hearing health, and trialled a new sport with help from Sunbury Pickleball Club’s Tim Gadler. July also saw the return of the popular “Battle of the Sexes” tournament, where the women’s team once again claimed victory.
Looking ahead, excitement is building for the new Sunbury Seniors Hub at 8 O’Shanassy St, with building works underway and completion expected in early 2026. It was initially hoped the building would be completed this year.
Alongside activities and new facilities, Ms Zambello emphasises the importance of community support in sustaining local not-for-profits.
“For not-for-profits, funding is more than just a means to an end – it is a testament to the local community’s belief in their cause,” she said. “Every contribution is a vote for a better world, and every supporter is a partner in progress.”

“Sunbury Seniors is truly busy and happy,” Ms Zambello said. “With more members joining, some old traditions kept alive, new adventures ahead and strong community backing, our club looks forward to a great season.”
