The Sunbury Cemetery Trust is undertaking capital works at the Shields St site, specifically focusing on the monumental graves area.
In a statement, the trust says: “The primary objective of these works is the construction of permanent grave footings, adhering to strict Australian standards. The anticipated duration of these works is several weeks, and there may be some excavation in non-grave sites.”
Major construction works are scheduled to commence this week.
The trust is urging cemetery visitors to adhere to the following precautions:
- Please refrain from crossing any designated fences or barriers. These are in place to ensure your safety and to delineate active construction zones.
- Be cautious and keep a safe distance from any moving vehicles within the construction area. Your safety is our top priority.
- It is essential to refrain from interfering with equipment, materials, or staff on site. Please respect the construction process and allow our team to complete their work efficiently.
The construction is expected to span several weeks, and while efforts will be made to minimise disruption, the trust says there may be temporary inconveniences in and around the monumental graves area.
“We understand the sentimental value of the Sunbury Cemetery, and we assure you that these capital works aim to enhance and preserve its sanctity for future generations,” states the trust.
