Grant boost for Sunbury Multicultural Resources Hub

More than 150 multicultural and vulnerable senior citizens in Sunbury will benefit from a new outreach and support program, thanks to a $10,000 grant from Jemena’s 2025 Community Grants Program.

The town’s Multicultural Resources Hub has secured a grant to pilot the initiative to improve access to aged care and welfare services, while also helping to reduce social isolation. The program will deliver practical assistance through information sessions, welfare checks, and one-on-one support.

Jemena, which operates electricity and gas networks across Victoria and New South Wales, is distributing more than $163,000 to 16 organisations this year. Now in its seventh year, the Community Grants Program has provided more than $870,000 in funding to 85 community groups.

Craig Ypinazar, Jemena’s executive GM for people, safety and governance, said the program is designed to support those most in need.

“Local volunteer organisations are at the heart of their communities,” Mr Ypinazar said. “We can see from the type of applications we received that cost of living is still a major concern for many in our community. These grants can go some way towards assisting those who really need it.”

Other initiatives supported by this year’s round of grants include food programs, multicultural outreach projects, and animal rescue services that provide assistance to pet owners escaping family violence.

For Sunbury, the focus will be on strengthening connections for older residents, particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds who may find navigating services challenging. The grant is expected to help local seniors build confidence and access support that enables them to live more independently.

The Community Grants Program is part of Jemena’s broader Corporate Giving Program, which has invested more than $4.3 million into community partnerships and projects since 2019.
