Hume City Mayor Jarrod Bell has wrapped up his series of ‘Meet the Mayor’ community sessions – an initiative that began in Sunbury and took him to every corner of the municipality.
Cllr Bell, who represents Sunbury’s Jacksons Creek Ward, launched the program earlier this year to give residents a chance to meet their mayor face-to-face, raise local issues and share ideas for the city’s future.
The first session was held in Sunbury on 20 March, followed by events in:
- Roxburgh Park (14 May)
- Broadmeadows (17 June)
- Gladstone Park (23 August)
- Craigieburn Central (9 September)
“When I launched this initiative, the goal was simple — to bring the Mayoralty to the people,” stated Cllr Bell on his Facebook page.
“Across weekdays and weekends, in libraries, community centres, shopfronts and shopping centres, we took the time to visit every ward in Hume. Along the way, we met and spoke with hundreds of locals, answered thousands of questions and had so many real, genuine conversations.
“For many, it was the first time meeting their mayor or councillor face-to-face – and those moments of connection have been some of the most rewarding of my term.”
Cllr Bell thanked residents for turning out across the municipality, saying their feedback and ideas reflected the strong community spirit that defines Hume.
“I’ve absolutely loved every session — listening, learning and connecting with our community. The Meet Your Mayor program has been a truly valuable way to bring local government closer to the people it serves.”
Cllr Bell was appointed mayor on 19 November 2024 for a one-year term following his re-election to council with a 16-vote margin.
