As the four-year term for Hume City councillors comes to an end, with elections taking place in October, Cllr Carly Moore wants all members in the council’s new $2.7m chamber for the final two meetings.

However, Cllr Trevor Dance says the chamber is not a safe place.

Council staff told Cllr Moore that councillors can ask to attend meetings remotely.

With local election campaigning having barely begun, claims of vandals removing candidate publicity signs belonging to Natalie Harrison and Trevor Dance have surfaced.

Seeking office for the first time – running in Jacksons Creek ward as an independent – Ms Harrison says two of her promotional signs in Goonawarra and one in Bulla disappeared this week.

Her running mate, fellow independent Cllr Trevor Dance, standing in Emu Creek ward, says one of his signs was taken down in Sunbury. But was put back a day later.

Sunbury Radio has a slimmed down committee following changes made at its August AGM.

The station is also preparing to change its status from a not for profit to a charity.

Volunteers are preparing to attend the Sunbury Agricultural Show on 12 October – contact the station if you want to get involved.

Law firm Maurice Blackburn is appealing for anyone with information about historical sexual abuse at the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre to contact its lawyers.

The firm has launched an appeal for witnesses as part of its investigations on behalf of a woman who was allegedly abused by a former worker at the Ligar St pool during the 1980s. The alleged perpetrator has since died, says the law firm.

A third runway for Melbourne Airport got the green light from Catherine King MP.

The 3,000-metre runway is expected to come into operation in 2031, and will be built 1.3k to the west of the airport’s existing north-south runway.

A black swan frequently seen at Spavin Lake, that was treated for zinc poisoning in May, was helped again last month after a  fishing hook was spotted in its beak.

In addition to removing a hook from the swan, volunteers from Wildlife Rescue & Rehab Statewide helped a goose that had a fishhook in one of its feet.

Hume City councillors have voted to look again at the location of Sunbury’s George Evans Museum.

The proposal, by Cllr Trevor Dance, means council staff will review the options for a fully free-standing building – such as within the Jacksons Hill site – and investigate any potential to expand the current location at The Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.

The museum has a collection of around 10,000 exhibits.

The government has revealed the location of a new $25m Tafe campus in Sunbury which is expected to open in 2028.

The site spans almost 3,000 square meters at 7 Evans St and 2-4 O’Shanassy St, close to the town centre and public transport. Student capacity of the campus will be 150 with options to take part in courses online.
