Sunbury’s older residents will soon have a modern new space to connect and socialise, following the official opening of the rebuilt Sunbury Seniors Hub.
The $4.3m development at 8 O’Shanassy St was funded through $3.7m from Hume City Council and $600,000 from the Victorian Government, delivered via the West Gate Tunnel Project’s Sunbury & Bulla Neighbourhood Fund.
Set to reopen to the community in the New Year, the hub features multi-purpose rooms, informal gathering and coffee spaces, accessible amenities, and inviting outdoor areas designed to support a wide range of senior-focused activities.
Hume City Councillor Jarrod Bell said the opening marked the realisation of a vision shared by local advocates.
He paid tribute to long-time community advocates Frank and Louise Zambello, praising their years of commitment and leadership.
“I’ve known Frank for almost ten years. We first connected when he was rolling up his sleeves at the Sunbury Men’s Shed, and today he and Louise, with a dedicated group of volunteers, lead the charge at Sunbury Seniors,” he said. “They dreamed big, did the hard yards, and brought people together to make this happen.”
More than 100 locals attended the opening alongside Cllr Bell, Cr Kate Hamley and Josh Bull MP, on 8 November.
The upgraded hub will welcome user groups back after the Christmas break.
