Passengers travelling through Melbourne’s north-west over the next week are being asked to plan ahead, as level crossing removal works progress in Calder Park and Diggers Rest.
Buses will replace trains on the Sunbury Line between Watergardens and Sunbury from the first service on Monday, 23 June to the last service on Sunday, 29 June.
Replacement buses will operate as often as every five minutes during peak periods, and will be a mix of express and stopping all stations services.
Trains on V/Line’s Bendigo and Echuca lines will operate between Bendigo, Echuca and Sunbury only. Passengers will switch to metropolitan trains and buses to complete their journey to and from Southern Cross.
Express coaches will replace trains on the Swan Hill Line between Bendigo and Southern Cross. Trains will continue to operate between Swan Hill and Bendigo.
V/Line passengers should allow up to 90 minutes extra for their journey and can download the temporary timetables from the V/Line website.
Calder Park Dr, Calder Park closes between the Calder Freeway and the Glenbruar Dr/Manchester Dr roundabout from 1am Saturday 21 June to 6am Wednesday 23 July. All traffic will detour via Kings Rd and the Melton Highway.
During this time, crews will install large concrete beams over the rail line and complete concreting, asphalting and line marking to form the new road bridge on Calder Park Dr, due to open to traffic on Wednesday 23 July.
Holden Rd, Diggers Rest will permanently close to traffic from 7am Wednesday 23 July.
While trains aren’t running, crews in Diggers Rest will also finish painting works at the Old Calder Highway level crossing removal site, and removal of asphalt and track at the Watsons Rd level crossing, and install drainage, concrete beams and overhead wire protection screens.
Closing the Holdern Rd level crossing and removing the level crossings at Calder Park Dr, the Old Calder Highway and Watsons Rd will make the Sunbury Line level crossing free by the year-end.
