Sunbury bus station is getting a make-over with upgrades including new displays to provide real time information on bus services, safer pedestrian crossings, and an extra bus layover area to ease congestion in Brook St. New tactile ground surface indicators, lighting and CCTV will also be installed.
Bus services will continue as usual, states Public Transport Victoria, but there may be some changes to bus bays. Signs will be in place to direct people to the correct bus bay.
Changes will see the removal of an informal pedestrian crossing between the Sunbury Square Shopping Centre car park and replacing it with a new pedestrian crossing.
Work on the Brook St commuter car park will occur within the next few months. The upgrades will create a new pathway between the Station St multi-level car park and the station entrance, and reconfigure the layout of car spaces.
In addition accessible parking spaces will be upgraded and 10 new bike hoops will be installed at the station.

News of the upgrades on Facebook drew plenty of comments over the lack of a lift at the station. Something Sunbury Life has previously reported on.
Amy Weir wrote: “Sunbury station desperately needs a lift. Why is Sunbury always so neglected for the basics? I mean pushing a pram or wheelchair up and down those ramps is near impossible unless you’re an athlete! A lift is a priority.”
While Tony Clark said: “What about a lift at the station for the disabled?”
And Gaye Simon wrote: “Priority to me is a lift. I see some of our elderly really struggle.
“The other issue I have are the groups of young people hanging around the bus stop, yelling, swearing etc. This can be rather intimidating and not a good look for Sunbury.”
