More green waste bins coming

Hume City Council is to deliver organic waste bins to homes that don’t currently have one as it works to meet State government’s policy.

They will be included in council’s standard kerbside collection service, along with garbage and recycling bins. The green waste bins will allow all residents to recycle their food scraps and garden clippings, rather than send them to landfill.

For those who already have an organic waste bin at home, nothing is changing. Council states you can keep using them as normal.

Bins will be delivered between April and June this year, with collection commencing from 1 July. State government had imposed a deadline of 2030 for the service.

The council’s food and garden bin was launched in 2014, and nearly half of Hume households have opted in to the service.
