Hume City’s mayor, Cllr Naim Kurt, has been appointed to the Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel (LGMAP) to advise Melissa Horne, the minister for local government, on legislative, regulatory, strategic, and policy decisions which impact the local government sector.
However, mayor Kurt is yet to share what he said at this year’s first meeting of the panel, held last Thursday (21 March).
The LGMAP is a statutory advisory committee with members appointed every year, the term ends 20 October. Meetings are chaired by the minister for local government, and this year’s panel will focus on governance, representation, and inclusion.
While the panel has no decision making powers, it is a chance for its members to have the minister’s ear and influence decision-making.
SunburyLife asked mayor Kurt what he planned to discuss at the meeting. A Hume City Council spokesperson couldn’t answer, and referred us to the LGMAP secretariat. It has not responded.
