Village green to get an official name

An area commonly known as the village green, sitting between Rolling Meadows Dr and Berrydale Rd may be given the name Noogal Park. The name was suggested during a period of community engagement council began in 2023.

At their meeting on Monday 25 March, Hume City councillors voted to start a formal community consultation for the new name to be adopted. Noogal means ‘belong’ in the Woi Wurrang language.

If the name is endorsed by council it will need to be approved by the Registrar of Geographic names, followed by a payment of $3,500 to the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, before it can be used.

Council will consult with those within the vicinity of the green bound by Rupertswood Rd, Berrydale Rd, and Rolling Meadows Dr by writing to property owners, and the wider community can use a Participate Hume page on council’s website to share their views.

The village green bordering Rolling Meadows Dr may be named Noogal Park.
