One week after home builder Villawood Properties erected a huge sign on the Jacksons Creek Valley ridge line, the firm is to remove it.
The news follows public disquiet about the sign spoiling the natural look of the valley, and Sunbury Cllr Trevor Dance taking the matter up with Hume City Council’s planning department.
Last week a spokesperson for the property company described the sign as a sculpture, said it was on private land, and that the firm had planning permission to erect it
However, Cllr Dance contacted planning department bosses with a ‘please explain’ after being approached by constituents.
“The developer has today responded to our notice and flagged their intention to remove the structures,” says Cllr Dance.
“They have acknowledged the signs were erected in error, without the appropriate permissions, and they will in future work with us [Hume City Council] to ensure such permission is in place before any works are undertaken.”
Cllr Dance understands the sign will be taken down within 14 days.
Last week he described the Villawood sign as a “disgrace” and a “…total eyesore”.
A spokesperson for Villawood Properties says it will apply for a permit for the sign.
Hume City Council has not yet responded to our request for comment.
